Uttar Pradesh Tops Milk Production with 40% Growth Under Yogi Government

Lucknow News : Uttar Pradesh has emerged as the leading milk-producing state in the country, recording a significant 40% increase in production under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

The state has surpassed major dairy producers such as Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Maharashtra, establishing itself as the strongest contributor to India’s dairy sector.

Record Growth Strengthens Dairy Sector

According to official data, Uttar Pradesh alone accounts for 16% of the country’s total milk production, while the top five states together contribute 54%. This highlights the state’s expanding dairy infrastructure and growing capacity.

Milk production in Uttar Pradesh has risen sharply from 277 lakh metric tonnes in 2016–17 to over 388 lakh metric tonnes in 2024–25. Additional Chief Secretary (Animal Husbandry) Mukesh Meshram attributed this nearly 40% growth to planned policies and focused efforts at the grassroots level.

Women at the Forefront of Dairy Expansion

Rural women have played a crucial role in this transformation. Under the Uttar Pradesh State Rural Livelihood Mission, lakhs of women are actively participating in dairy activities and becoming financially independent.

In 31 districts, women-led groups are collectively procuring around 10 lakh litres of milk ежедневно, generating business worth nearly ₹5,000 crore. About 4 lakh women farmers have been linked with five major dairy companies across the state, significantly boosting rural livelihoods.

These include Balini MPCL in Bundelkhand, Kashi MPCL in Purvanchal, Samarthya MPCL in the Awadh region, Shri Baba Gorakhnath Kripa MPCL in Gorakhpur division, and Srijan MPCL in the Terai region.

Officials said that this large-scale participation of women in economic activities marks a new phase of empowerment. The surge in milk production not only reflects economic growth but also symbolizes the changing development narrative of Uttar Pradesh.
