GeM Crosses ₹18.4 Lakh Crore GMV, Sets New Benchmark in Digital Public Procurement
Sandesh Wahak Digital Desk : The Government e-Marketplace (GeM) has achieved a cumulative Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) of ₹18.4 lakh crore, including procurement exceeding ₹5 lakh crore in the financial year 2025–26. This milestone marks a major step forward in India’s digital governance journey, highlighting the platform’s growing role in transparent and efficient public procurement.
GeM has emerged as a crucial bridge between government buyers and sellers, enabling seamless and accountable transactions across the country. Officials say the achievement reflects increasing trust among stakeholders in a technology-driven procurement ecosystem.
Inclusive Growth Powered by Small Businesses and Startups
The platform has significantly expanded opportunities for Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs), women-led businesses, SC/ST entrepreneurs, and startups.
During FY 2025–26, MSEs accounted for 68% of total orders and contributed 47.1% of the overall GMV. More than 11 lakh MSEs are currently registered on GeM, collectively securing over 51 lakh orders worth ₹2.36 lakh crore — a growth of more than 20% compared to the previous financial year.
Women-led enterprises also recorded strong growth, with over 2.1 lakh such businesses receiving orders worth more than ₹28,000 crore, reflecting nearly 28% growth. SC/ST entrepreneurs secured orders exceeding ₹6,000 crore, while startups achieved orders worth over ₹19,000 crore, marking an impressive 36% rise.
Technology Enhances Transparency and Expands Reach
Technology remains at the core of GeM’s operations. The platform leverages Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and advanced analytics to improve efficiency, ensure transparency, and detect irregularities in procurement processes.
Key features include AI-driven catalogue validation, pre-sanity checks to reduce errors, and real-time analytics for monitoring transactions. Advanced systems also identify abnormal pricing patterns, potential collusion, and anomalies in bidding, strengthening trust in the procurement system.
The adoption of GeM is also expanding across states and Union Territories. Procurement by states grew by 38.3% in FY 2025–26, indicating rising confidence beyond central government departments.
GeM CEO Mihir Kumar said the milestone reflects strong confidence among buyers, sellers, and institutions in a transparent and accountable system.
With its growing footprint and continued technological innovation, GeM is playing a key role in strengthening India’s digital public infrastructure and promoting inclusive, efficient governance.
